Re:       Bamberg County Council Adopts Resolution to Honor Mrs. Carrie Burgess Eaddy’s 100th Birthday

Bamberg, South Carolina (March 2026) –During the March 10 meeting, Bamberg County Council presented a resolution to commemorate Mrs. Carrie Burgess Eaddy's 100th birthday, which was on December 27, 2025. District 4 Councilman Spencer Donaldson sponsored the resolution to recognize Mrs. Eaddy’s centennial milestone and her lifelong example of faith, perseverance, and dedication to family.

Mrs. Eaddy was born December 27, 1925, to the late Richard and Viola Blow Burgess on the Large Burgess Farm in rural Williamsburg County near Hemingway, South Carolina, and is the only surviving sibling among seventeen (17) brothers and sisters. She was raised in a Christian household and was taught the foundational values of hard work, responsibility, and faith.

Young Miss Carrie made a daily two-mile trek to the Hemingway public schools, demonstrating her diligence and commitment to education from an early age. While residing with her family in Florida, she continued her education and later graduated from Denmark-Olar High School and Burgess Cosmetology Beauty School in Sumter, South Carolina. As a devoted member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Church, Mrs. Eaddy cultivated a strong Christian faith that continues to shape her character and service to others.

On October 26, 1948, Mrs. Eaddy married the late Arthur Eaddy, who had previously served honorably in World War II. The Eaddy family relocated to Denmark, SC, in 1952, and Mr. Eaddy worked with the Savannah River Plant. The devoted couple raised four daughters—Gracie, Mable, Marilyn, and Alfredia—while also providing care and guidance to their grandnephew, Samuel Edward Burgess, and two grandchildren, Ronald and Jennifer.

Mrs. Carrie Burgess Eaddy is known for her integrity, wisdom, steadfast faith, and devotion to family, which has established a legacy maintained through the many lives she has nurtured and positively influenced.

Councilman Donaldson and the entire Bamberg County Council extend their “sincere appreciation to the family of Mrs. Eaddy and join them in acknowledging a life distinguished by service, perseverance, and devotion. “
