Re:       Keep Bamberg County Beautiful and City of Refuge Ministries Host Community Cleanup in Denmark

Bamberg, South Carolina (March 2026) — Keep Bamberg County Beautiful (KBCB), in partnership with City of Refuge Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Hezekiah Wroten, hosted a successful community litter cleanup on Saturday, March 7, along Heritage Highway in Denmark. Over the course of one hour and thirty minutes, nine volunteers collected 13 bags of litter from the roadway surrounding City of Refuge Ministries, located at 22165 Heritage Highway.

Volunteers included Bamberg County Councilman Dr. Jonathan Goodman, City of Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson, City of Denmark Councilwoman and Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Board Member Charnda Sanders Williams, and Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Executive Director Alisha Moore, along with church members and community supporters who came together to improve the appearance of the area and promote environmental stewardship.

“This cleanup shows what can happen when the community comes together with a shared purpose,” said Bamberg County Councilman Dr. Jonathan Goodman. “Even with a small group of volunteers, we were able to make a visible impact in a short amount of time. I’m proud to support initiatives like this that improve our community and encourage residents to take pride in where we live.”

Mayor Harold Johnson praised the collaborative effort between community organizations and local leadership. “The City of Denmark is grateful for the partnership with Keep Bamberg County Beautiful and City of Refuge Ministries,” Johnson said. “When residents, local leaders, and community organizations work together, we can keep our neighborhoods cleaner and create a more welcoming environment for everyone.”

Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Executive Director Alisha Moore emphasized the importance of community involvement in keeping Bamberg County clean. “Every bag of litter removed makes a difference,” Moore said. “This cleanup demonstrates how much can be accomplished when volunteers step up to protect and beautify their community. We are grateful to City of Refuge Ministries for hosting us and to all of our volunteers who helped make this event a success.”

Keep Bamberg County Beautiful will host another community litter pickup later this month in celebration of South Carolina Sweep, a statewide cleanup initiative organized by PalmettoPride. The annual event encourages communities across South Carolina to work together to remove litter and promote environmental responsibility.

Residents interested in volunteering for future cleanups are encouraged to follow Keep Bamberg County Beautiful on social media for updates on upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.
