Bamberg, South Carolina (April 2026) — Keep Bamberg County Beautiful (KBCB), in partnership with the Palmetto Garden Club, brought Earth Day to life for students at Denmark-Olar Elementary School with an engaging, hands-on educational experience focused on pollinators, planting, and environmental stewardship.
KBCB Director Alisha Moore and members of the Palmetto Garden Club visited Mrs. Crosby and Mrs. Clark’s second-grade classes, where students learned about the importance of pollinator plants native to South Carolina and their role in supporting butterflies, bees, and a healthy ecosystem.
As part of the interactive program, Linda Bell and members of the Palmetto Garden Club read books about butterflies and shared Earth Day-themed poems, sparking curiosity and excitement among the students. Following the reading, Moore led the class in a fun planting activity in which each student decorated their own planter (donated by Von Gaskin of the Nu Tau Omega Chapter of AKA) and planted seeds designed to resemble the Earth, creating a meaningful connection between Earth Day and the upcoming Mother’s Day celebrations.
The classroom was filled with enthusiasm as students eagerly participated, asked questions, and proudly created their own take-home planters.
“This is how we plant the seeds for a brighter future—by educating and engaging our youth,” said Alisha Moore, Director of Keep Bamberg County Beautiful. “When children understand the importance of pollinators and take part in growing something themselves, it builds a lifelong appreciation for the environment and their role in protecting it.”
Linda Bell of the Palmetto Garden Club emphasized the importance of early education and community involvement. “It’s always a joy to connect with students and share the beauty of nature with them. Watching their excitement as they learn about butterflies and plant their own seeds reminds us how important it is to nurture both our environment and the next generation.”
Keep Bamberg County Beautiful continues to partner with local organizations and schools to promote environmental awareness, sustainability, and community pride throughout Bamberg County.
