Bamberg, South Carolina (April 2026) — The City of Denmark was filled with excitement, pride, and community spirit over Easter Weekend as residents and visitors gathered to celebrate the annual Denmark Dogwood Festival—an event that continues to showcase the community's heart and heritage.

The festivities officially kicked off on March 28th with the Festival Pageant’s Royal Court and the beloved tradition of painting the dogwoods at the Denmark Fire Station on March 29th. The celebration continued on April 3 during the 3rd Annual Prayer Breakfast, where all six pageant participants were crowned, marking a special moment of recognition. During breakfast, Mrs. Anna L. Jennings was also honored as the 2026 Grand Marshal of the Denmark Dogwood Festival Parade.

The Dogwood Festival parade took place on April 4 at 11:00 a.m., drawing spectators of all ages, with floats, candy, and other goodies as the highlight. This year’s festival was hosted at a new location, 6505 Carolina Highway in Denmark, offering expanded space for a wide array of activities and attractions.

Festivalgoers enjoyed two full days of live entertainment, carnival rides, delicious food vendors, arts and crafts, and engaging games. The event was well attended, with families, friends, and visitors coming together to create lasting memories.

Mayor Harold Johnson shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The Denmark Dogwood Festival continues to be a shining example of what makes our community so special. Seeing everyone come together, supporting local vendors, and celebrating our traditions is truly inspiring.”

District 6 Bamberg County Councilman Evert Comer Jr. also reflected on the festival’s impact, noting, “This festival represents the pride of Denmark and Bamberg County. It’s always a joy to see our community come alive with such positive energy and fellowship.”

The success of this year’s festival would not have been possible without the dedication and leadership of the Dogwood Festival Committee, including Chairperson Reba Lofton, Terria Atterberry-Youman, Rosella Cooper, Vanessa D. Freeman, Rosa James (City of Denmark Councilwoman, Mayor Pro Tem, and City Liaison), Dr. Yvette McDaniel, Abbie Billinghurst, Dianna Davis-Bailey, Gloris Gilberg, Detra Bruce, and Chandra Williams.

With strong community participation and an atmosphere filled with togetherness, the Denmark Dogwood Festival once again proved to be a highlight for residents of the City of Denmark and the surrounding areas. The weekend was a true reflection of the beauty of community.

Organizers and attendees alike are already looking ahead with excitement and anticipation for an even bigger and better Denmark Dogwood Festival next year.
