Volunteer

Are you ready for the challenge?

The Bamberg County Fire Service is actively seeking members of our community to become Volunteer Firefighters.

Benefits of becoming a firefighter
  • The State of SC has a Volunteer Tax Incentive Program that gives a taxable income reduction of $3000 on State taxes to volunteers who qualify. This benefits our volunteers if they meet guidelines set by the State for attendance, training, etc.
  • You have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping your community and its citizens
  • You will have the opportunity to receive the same training as the Career Firefighters
  • Discounts at selected merchants
  • South Carolina State Firefighters' Association
  • SC Firefighters Federal Credit Union membership
  • Life Insurance

Volunteer Firefighter Qualifications
  • Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Candidates for membership will be medically evaluated annually at no cost to the volunteer.
  • Any criminal history that is showing a conviction is grounds for disapproval.

Minimum Requirements

For our safety as well as yours, and to ensure our citizens receive prompt, professional and proficient service, the following minimum standards have been outlined:

  • Successfully complete training requirements
  • Attend fire department monthly business meetings
  • Attend routine training drills and sessions
  • Perform a minimum of 12 hours of station time monthly

In order to apply as a volunteer firefighter, contact your local fire chief. Applications for candidates will be reviewed by the department chief. Completion of application does not ensure fire department membership. Per South Carolina State Law, applicants must submit to a criminal background check.
