Bamberg, South Carolina (September 8, 2017) – Bamberg County has welcomed a steady influx of travelers to local roads and intersections. Traffic is rare in this small rural county of approximately 14,500 residents. Bamberg County Public Works used a drone, flown by Bamberg County Director of Operations, Bill Johnson to capture the traffic increase. Pictures attached show long lines of vehicles at local intersections.

Bamberg County has advised residents of the increased traffic via Facebook; residents are reminded to drive carefully and leave plenty of time to travel. Motorists are advised to know their route, particularly if evacuating, and have full gas tanks. Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office, along with SC State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement officers from the cities and towns of Bamberg, Denmark, Olar, Govan, and Ehrhardt are working traffic control points at all local intersections to ensure safe flow of traffic.

Bamberg County Emergency Services has been monitoring Hurricane Irma closely. A shelter is scheduled to open on Sunday, September 10 at noon at Richard Carroll Elementary School in Bamberg.
